This summer, we took a great low-budget road trip with a new Roadsurfer camper. In seven days, we traveled from Marburg to Milan. We will fondly remember this relaxing trip with our child for a long time. In this post, you’ll find out how we traveled for a week for only €99.

Picking up your Roadsurfer camper and first impressions
The day of pick-up arrived, and with it the excitement of seeing our camper for the first time. Before pick-up, you will already receive instructions for the campervan. At pick-up, everything was explained to us again in detail – from filling it with fresh water and leveling the vehicle when camping to setting up the roof. Our camper was a brand new VW T6.1 California Ocean with only 21 km on the clock. The vehicle was clean, fully fueled and ready for our adventure. We only had to fill up with fresh water ourselves, as this is not possible at the compound in Marburg.

On the way
Finding the perfect pitch for the camper
Wild camping - pure adventure
- Find out about local laws and regulations. Wild camping is prohibited or restricted in many countries and regions.
- Pay attention to nature conservation. Leave the place as you found it, leave no garbage and do not make an open fire.
- Be discreet and respect the privacy of others. Avoid camping near residential buildings or public facilities.
Simple pitch or parking space - practical and uncomplicated
Campsite - comfort and community
- Pay attention to the parking regulations. Parking spaces are often time-limited or subject to a fee.
- Safety is important. Do not park in remote or unsafe places, especially in cities.
- Respect others. Even if it's just a parking lot, you should avoid noise and respect the privacy of others and not unpack all your camping equipment. This can lead to expensive penalties, especially in southern countries.
- Book in advance. Campsites can be fully booked quickly, especially in high season.
- Find out about the facilities and rules of the site. Not all campsites are the same.
- Take the opportunity to get to know other campers and families. There are often community activities or areas that invite you to exchange ideas and socialize. Especially with children, you can quickly make connections and the little ones can find new playmates.
Our tip: park4night
We used the park4night app on our road trips and often spontaneously decided on pitches. Sometimes a little luck is required, because especially in summer the beautiful and free or cheap pitches are quickly occupied.
In the free basic version of the app you can see a variety of pitches. In the paid premium version you can see all pitches and also filter by criteria such as shower and toilet. We find this very practical, as you don’t have a full bathroom in the VW California.
The relaxed life in the camper
A day in the Ocean Suite
The small, large space miracle
The kitchen area
The trunk
In the trunk you will find the Roadsurfer kitchen box. Here you will find all the dishes and kitchen utensils for 4 adults and 2 children. Since the box is very well equipped, it is unfortunately correspondingly large and takes up about a quarter of the trunk.
We had just enough space in the trunk for our hand luggage and our compact travel stroller. However, if you are traveling with more luggage or have a larger stroller, it will be more difficult to fit everything in.
The auxiliary heating
The bathroom without a toilet
Due to its compact size, the camper does not have a full bathroom. However, we were able to brush our teeth perfectly at the sink in the kitchen area. A cold water shower is also available at the rear of the tailgate. For us, this was perfect for being able to shower after a day at the beach.
When renting classically via Roadsurfer, you can also rent a chemical toilet as an accessory. This is not possible via movacar.

The farewell and return of your Roadsurfer camper
We were very sad to return our beloved Roadsurfer camper after 7 days and end our road trip.
You can find everything you need to know about the return in the customer login at Roadsurfer. We had to empty the water tank and fill up the diesel tank.
Our conclusion about the Roadsurfer camper
After a week of adventure and discovery, we can say that we have taken the Roadsurfer camper to our hearts. The “Ocean Suite” has exceeded our expectations and offered us an unforgettable experience.
We can highly recommend the landlord Roadsurfer, he is an excellent camper landlord. Both the booking process and the on-site service were first class.
Overall, I can say that our experience with Roadsurfer and the “Ocean Suite” VW T6.1 California Ocean was very positive. Whether you are experienced campers or looking for your first camping adventure, Roadsurfer definitely has something for you! We will definitely rent a Roadsurfer camper again for our next road trip.
