Roadsurfer Camper Rally from Marburg to Milan

Booking a Roadsurfer camper

Direct booking with roadsurfer

You can book the camper in the classic way on the Roadsurfer website. The Munich-based company Roadsurfer has been on the market since 2016 and now has numerous locations throughout Europe and Los Angeles in the USA. Prices for campers start at €65/night, depending on the pick-up location, plus a service fee of €99. The pick-up location is always the return location. One-way rentals are not possible. You can choose between different campers, from small vans to large motorhomes, and opt for different insurance packages. You can also book additional equipment such as bed linen or child seats.

Booking via the Movacar platform

If you are flexible with your time and want to experience an adventure, then we recommend that you take a look at the Movacar intermediary platform. There you can book the Campervan Rally. With the rally, you usually have 7 days to transfer a Roadsurfer camper from A to B and only pay €99 in total. The pick-up location and the return location are determined by Roadsurfer and are fixed before booking, but you can choose the route completely yourself. After renting via Movacar, you can also choose from various insurance packages. Booking additional accessories is usually not possible.
We decided to transfer a campervan from Marburg, the Roadsurfer Compound, to Milan and take an exciting road trip for only €99.

Picking up your Roadsurfer camper and first impressions

The day of pick-up arrived, and with it the excitement of seeing our camper for the first time. Before pick-up, you will already receive instructions for the campervan. At pick-up, everything was explained to us again in detail – from filling it with fresh water and leveling the vehicle when camping to setting up the roof. Our camper was a brand new VW T6.1 California Ocean with only 21 km on the clock. The vehicle was clean, fully fueled and ready for our adventure. We only had to fill up with fresh water ourselves, as this is not possible at the compound in Marburg.

The drive from Marburg to Milan

Preparation and start

With our hand luggage packed and the expectation of an unforgettable adventure in our hearts, our journey from Marburg to Milan began in the iconic VW bus. Before we started, we familiarized ourselves again with the vehicle and its functions to ensure that we could take full advantage of all the amenities and technical aids.

Driving comfort

As soon as we were on the highway, we noticed that the VW T6.1 drives almost like a normal car. The driving comfort was very high thanks to the excellent suspension, the powerful engine and the smooth steering. Despite the fact that we were driving a larger vehicle, we never felt insecure or overwhelmed. The excellent visibility and the helpful assistance systems, such as the lane keeping assistant and the adaptive cruise control, made the journey stress-free and pleasant.

The equipment of the "Ocean Suite"

Inside, the “Ocean Suite” offered us every conceivable comfort while driving. The ergonomically designed seats ensured that we were still relaxed even after hours on the highway. There was enough space for our daughter to play and sleep in the back seat. Thanks to the integrated infotainment system, we were able to listen to our favorite radio station and use the navigation system to orient ourselves on our route while driving.

On the way

During our drive through Germany, Austria and finally Italy, we were able to fully enjoy the breathtaking landscapes thanks to the panoramic windows of the “Ocean Suite”. Although we encountered narrow roads and heavy traffic in the Italian cities on some sections, the camper mastered these challenges with ease. Thanks to the compact size of the VW van, we never had any difficulties finding a parking space.

Finding the perfect pitch for the camper

When you’re traveling with a camper, one of the biggest adventures is often finding the perfect place to park and spend the night. There are many options, from wild camping to staying at a campsite. On the way from Marburg to Milan, we visited various pitches and would like to share our experiences and tips with you.

Wild camping - pure adventure

Wild camping is the dream of many campers. You are in the middle of nature, far away from other people and enjoy the silence and beauty around you. Sounds tempting, but is unfortunately prohibited in most countries. Therefore, you should pay attention to the following if you want to go wild camping.

Simple pitch or parking space - practical and uncomplicated

Campsite - comfort and community

Sometimes all you need is a simple pitch or parking space to spend the night. This can be a public parking lot in a city, a rest area on a highway or a specially marked motorhome parking space. Here are our tips:
A campsite offers you many amenities and a community of like-minded people. You have access to sanitary facilities, often there is a shop, sometimes even a restaurant or a pool. Here are our tips:

Our tip: park4night

We used the park4night app on our road trips and often spontaneously decided on pitches. Sometimes a little luck is required, because especially in summer the beautiful and free or cheap pitches are quickly occupied.

In the free basic version of the app you can see a variety of pitches. In the paid premium version you can see all pitches and also filter by criteria such as shower and toilet. We find this very practical, as you don’t have a full bathroom in the VW California.

The relaxed life in the camper

A day in the Ocean Suite

Living in the “Ocean Suite” means concentrating on the essentials and enjoying life to the fullest. Waking up to the sound of nature and a great view, cooking the first coffee of the day on the gas stove with a view and having breakfast outside while the world slowly comes to life.

The small, large space miracle

The “Ocean Suite” is a real space miracle. Although it looks compact from the outside, it has enough space inside for a family of four. There are two double beds – one downstairs, which can be transformed from the folded-down rear seat, and one upstairs, under the pop-up roof. During the day, you can turn the lower lying surface into a cozy seating area, which means that you always have enough space to relax, play or eat.

The kitchen area

The kitchen area is small but very functional. You have a relatively large refrigerator for your food and drinks, a sink with fresh water and a two-burner gas stove for preparing your meals. In the numerous cupboards you will find enough space for the dishes and your supplies.

The trunk

In the trunk you will find the Roadsurfer kitchen box. Here you will find all the dishes and kitchen utensils for 4 adults and 2 children. Since the box is very well equipped, it is unfortunately correspondingly large and takes up about a quarter of the trunk.

We had just enough space in the trunk for our hand luggage and our compact travel stroller. However, if you are traveling with more luggage or have a larger stroller, it will be more difficult to fit everything in.

The auxiliary heating

A special highlight is the auxiliary heating. It ensures that you are nice and warm even on cooler days or nights. This means that nothing stands in the way of a trip in autumn or winter. We didn’t use it in the summer and would have been happier with air conditioning when camping.

The bathroom without a toilet

Due to its compact size, the camper does not have a full bathroom. However, we were able to brush our teeth perfectly at the sink in the kitchen area. A cold water shower is also available at the rear of the tailgate. For us, this was perfect for being able to shower after a day at the beach.
When renting classically via Roadsurfer, you can also rent a chemical toilet as an accessory. This is not possible via movacar.

The outdoor area

The “Ocean Suite” not only offers comfort inside. It also comes with a camping table and two camping chairs that you can conveniently store in the tailgate and in the door. There is also an awning. So you can make yourself comfortable outside whenever you want.

The freedom of the "Ocean Suite"

can. You can go wherever you want and stay wherever you like. You are independent and can design your vacation exactly as you want. Today a day at the lake, tomorrow a hike in the mountains and the day after tomorrow a stroll through the city – everything is possible in the “Ocean Suite”!

The farewell and return of your Roadsurfer camper

We were very sad to return our beloved Roadsurfer camper after 7 days and end our road trip.

You can find everything you need to know about the return in the customer login at Roadsurfer. We had to empty the water tank and fill up the diesel tank.

Our conclusion about the Roadsurfer camper

After a week of adventure and discovery, we can say that we have taken the Roadsurfer camper to our hearts. The “Ocean Suite” has exceeded our expectations and offered us an unforgettable experience.
We can highly recommend the landlord Roadsurfer, he is an excellent camper landlord. Both the booking process and the on-site service were first class.

Overall, I can say that our experience with Roadsurfer and the “Ocean Suite” VW T6.1 California Ocean was very positive. Whether you are experienced campers or looking for your first camping adventure, Roadsurfer definitely has something for you! We will definitely rent a Roadsurfer camper again for our next road trip.
